Emergency Response
Session Description
Every cardiac arrest in neurosurgical patients is complex and unique and is affected by the surgical procedure, the position of the patient and performing CPR on a patient with an open cranial or spinal wound. This simulation and discussion-based workshop covers the Resuscitation Council UK guidelines for cardiac arrest in neurosurgery. Scenarios presented include cardiac arrest in the prone patient, patients fixed in Mayfield pins, venous air embolism, and patients with open cranial and spinal wounds. This session is run with the team that have provided the One Brain Neuroanaesthesia simulation course and was last run at the ANZCA ASM 2023 in Sydney.
