Communication and rapport has a powerful, clinically important effect on boosting or antagonising the effects of analgesic agents. These processes are active in every patient interaction and are also backed by fascinating neuroscience and clinical studies. This masterclass aims to provide practical strategies that can be applied in a busy setting of an acute pain round. The evidence underpinning these practical strategies will also be explored, both for interest and to assist in teaching trainees. This masterclass is designed to be interactive, fun and informative and to provide some space for people to share their own cases, questions and concerns.
