Shared decision making (SDM) is a collaborative approach that involves patients, caregivers, and healthcare providers working together to make healthcare decisions that are informed, tailored, and aligned with patients' values and preferences. This masterclass is led by Dr Debra Leung, a staff specialist anaesthetist at Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre who is currently undertaking a PhD in the role of Shared Decision Making in Perioperative Medicine. Through an interactive, case-based format, this masterclass will delve into the important and practical considerations in helping guide patients through the difficult decisions and conversations related to complex healthcare choices. This masterclass will equip anaesthetists with the necessary tools to navigate the Shared Decision Making pathway and elevate the patient centred approach to high risk surgical management.
