Talk Description

This two hour workshop takes place at the National Critical Care and Trauma Response Centre (NCCTRC) warehouse at Darwin Airport. The workshop includes a tour of the NCCTRC caches utilised during Australian Medical Assistance Team (AusMAT) deployment internationally following a sudden onset disaster. There is a hands-on discussion of the portable anaesthetic equipment and consumables used during a level 2 (surgical) International Emergency Medical Team (EMT) deployment including drawover apparatus. The workshop also includes an interactive problem-based session on the good, the bad and the ugly of the short surgical mission. Associate Professor Bisola Onajin-Obemebe, Past President of the Nigerian Society of Anesthestists and Associate Professor David Pescod OA, member of Interplast‘s Clinical Governance Committee will run a “hypothetical” scenario unpacking what makes a mission successful and what are the common pitfalls.
